EXCLUSION ZONE

EXCLUSION ZONE documents and honours the lives of those who stayed on the small Caribbean Island and British Overseas Territory - Montserrat, following the devastating series of volcanic eruptions from 1995.

The Soufrière Hills volcanic eruptions left 80% of Montserrat, including the capital Plymouth, uninhabitable. This land mass, known as the “Exclusion Zone”, is now an untouched and overgrown hinterland.

Three decades on from the eruptions, Exclusion Zone offers a timely moment to witness and celebrate the determination of Montserratian life.

EXCLUSION ZONE is supported by the Joan Wakelin Bursary, The Guardian, Royal Photographic Society, Visual Studies Workshop and Montserrat Gov UK.
